The Islanders selection of the 2016 Valletta Film Festival will be travelling to Africa to be presented as part of the Festival of Festival section of the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF).
The presentation, to be held on Tuesday 12 July 2016 by VFF Programmer Angelique Muller, is supported by Cultural Export Fund’s Touring and Presentation Grant provided by Arts Council Malta.
ZIFF is East Africa’s largest film, music and arts festival, bringing new talents together from all over the world. Each year ZIFF invites a film festival to showcase part of their programming during the festival week in a programme called “Festival of Festivals”.
Angelique will be talking about the scope behind the Islanders sidebar and will be presenting this year’s selection that consisted of six films from Italy, Columbia, Spain, Belgium, Thailand and Iceland.
A film from this selection, ‘Isolated’ by Marcela Lizcano and ‘Socotra – The Island of Djinns’ by Jordi Esteva, a film about an island that was selected for Official Documentary Competition will be screened at the event.
During the 45-minute discussion preceding these screenings, Angelique will also talk about the Cinema of Small Nations Conference that was held during the Valletta Film Festival. Film Grain Foundation plans is to make of this an annual event that would be open to the film professionals of countries with a population under 5 million.
