Without Borders 2016 : The Cinema of the Middle-East

WITHOUT BORDERS, one of the non-competitive sections of Valletta Film Festival, will focus this year on the cinema of the Middle East bringing to local audiences seven film premieres from various Middle Eastern countries.

SAND STORM a film from Israel, this year’s Grand Jury Prize winner at Sundance Film Festival, will open this section on Saturday 4 June 2016.

The film is a family drama that takes place in a Bedouin Village in the Israeli desert. It tells the story of how a mother and her daughter with different views of the world both deal with life changing events at the same time.

Directed by Elite Zexter it features performances by Lamis Ammar as Layla and Ruba Blal-Asfour as Jalila. The film is produced by Haim Mecklberg and Estee Yacov-Mecklberg,

Other films in this section will be announced in the coming days. Tickets for this and other films will go on sale in May.

Festival passes giving access to all screenings and events at the festival are on sale already.

Every year Without Borders focuses on cinema from a particular country or region. The first edition of the festival focused on Scandinavia and exhibited 5 films from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Greenland.
