Following the success of the inaugural edition of Valletta Film Festival (VFF) that took place in June 2015, Film Grain Foundation is pleased to announce that the second edition of the festival will be held from Friday 3rd to Saturday 11th June 2016.
Calls for feature films, documentaries and short films to participate in this edition will open on Monday 5th October 2015. The rules and regulations for participating in next year’s edition of the festival will be announced on Friday 25th September 2015.
In 2016, the Foundation will be introducing a new competitive section titled TEENS ONLY. Five to seven coming of age films will be selected to compete for the TRITON TEENS CHOICE AWARD. This new section will make VFF accessible to audiences under 18 years of age. The aim is to show works that are thematically and aesthetically linked to the experiences of teenagers and create discussions between filmmakers and young audiences. This initiative is the first phase of a larger plan to make the festival accessible to all ages.
The second edition of VFF will also consist of three competitive sections for independently produced feature films, documentaries and short films and three non-competitive sections – ISLANDERS, WITHOUT BORDERS and MASTERS OF CINEMA.
Eight TRITON AWARDS will be handed out by 3 international juries to the BEST FILM, BEST DIRECTOR, BEST CINEMATOGRAPHER, BEST SCREENPLAY, BEST ACTOR, BEST ACTRESS, BEST DOCUMENTARY AND BEST SHORT FILM.
A number of special screenings will again be held during the week of the festival.
To offer more flexibility to local and international audiences, from 2016, the Foundation will be introducing film and festival passes and press accreditation. More details about these will be announced before the end of the year.
