MALI BLUES

Mali’s Music defines the country’s cultural identity.  It is considered by many as the birthplace of the blues and jazz, brought later by abducted slaves to America’s cotton fields. Musicians in Mali hold strong positions in society but radical Islamists are treating the musicians.  Together with the stars of Malian Global Pop – Fatoumata Diawara, Bassekou Kouyaté Master Soumy and Ahmed Ag Kaedi the documentary takes viewers on musical journey to Mali’s agitated heart. Can their music reconcile the country?
