Film Grain Foundation in collaboration with Initiative Film will be holding a Scriptwriting Workshop as part of Valletta Film Lab from Sunday 8th to Friday 13th December 2019.
The workshop is intended to train Writer/Directors or Screenwriters currently developing a script for a feature length film. Valletta Film Lab is a training and development platform open to filmmakers from Malta and other small nations around Europe.
Twelve projects will be selected for the workshop.
Participants will be divided in three groups, two for feature films and one for short films to be developed into features. The projects could be original works or adaptations. Filmmakers looking at adapting a short film they’ve wrote or shot into a feature film could also apply by providing the script of the short film, a link to the finished film and a treatment of how they envisage expanding the story into a feature film.
One of the aims of the workshop is to pair writer/directors and screenwriters with script editors. Thus, the workshop will be providing training to six script-editors. Each editor will be tasked to read the projects selected and will be asked to work in a group and individually with the writer/directors or screenwriters selected. Suitable candidates for this training could be producers, development managers, distributors, sales agents, film programmers, readers and artistic consultants with TV channels.
The programme will be spread on six days. It will start with an introductory dinner on the first day where participants will be invited to present their themselves and their projects. The week will be split between plenary sessions, group work and one-to-one meetings.
At the end of the workshop, Film Grain Foundation together with HSBC will award 2 projects with accreditation at a major film market and/or writing residence. The winners will be invited to pitch their project to producers, distributors and financiers.
The workshop will be conducted in the English Language.
