Audiences at the fifth edition of Valletta Film Festival voted the french animation ‘The Swallows of Kabul’ as their favourite film.
The 2D watercolour animation formed part of the Without Borders selection that focused on francophone films. The film is an adaptation of a novel by Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra directed by Zabou Breitman and Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec.
The film obtained an average rating of 4.49 preceding the documentary Diego Maradona (4.45) and french drama Portrait of a Lady on Fire (4.31).
This is the third year that the festival organised an audience award.
The Teens Choice Award, also selected by audiences of the Teens Only section at the festival went to feature film Binti.
